Her Dream House lighted and motorized sculpture

This is a piece about a little girl who goes to a carnival and that night dreams that her house has become the carousel. The piece is built within an antique box. The inside walls are covered with scenes that I have illustrated and printed on fabric. On the back wall is the carnival. The carousel actually turns via a 6v motor housed underneath the box. The tiny light in the middle is a 12v dollhouse light that unscrews if it ever needs replacing. The girl is made from clay and painted with to look old and have a crackled texture. The horses and her bed are made from fabric and wire. The carousel walls are made from dark blue netting. On the outside of the box I have carved something special on each side and on the top. It is finished off with a light glazing of white over blue paint and sealed. There is a cloth covered retro looking cord attached that is 10 feet in length and contains an inline on/off switch. It plugs into a regular wall outlet. The entire piece is wired with a fuse so that it will never overheat.

The Firecracker lighted sculpture

This piece is based on an old rollercoaster near my home in KCMO. The park that the coaster was in had closed due to a tornado but they left the coaster standing for years. Tree branches grew up through the rails and birds perched there also. I thought it looked so eerie, lonely and haunting that I made a sculpture of it. This piece contains a 12v dollhouse light that has a screwbase bulb so it can be changed if necessary. It has a 10-ft cloth covered retro looking cord with an inline on/off switch. It plugs into a regular wall outlet. The base is made from fabric covered metal surrounding a sturdy wood base.

Leaping To Conclusions motorized sculpture

This is a motorized piece that plugs into a regular wall outlet. Although this photo doesn’t show all the detail, the blue horse has “Leaping To Conclusions” written on his side. He’s suspended from a tattered circus tent that is supported by wire trees. The carousel below moves via a 6v motor hidden underneath the round base. The base has a fabric sign with the words “Reigning in your Thoughts” written on it. The horses in the carousel represent thoughts that have been reigned in and keep churning around and around.

The Rat Race turncrank sculpture

This is a turn crank piece. This piece is constructed of metal with handprinted canvas over it, clay, wood and rubber sheeting. It is called “Rat Race” and it’s a take off on old rocket rides that you see at carnivals only this time the rocketships are filled with adults who are racing racing racing in circles to get to their jobs and make more money! This piece is made from metal, handprinted fabric, paint, clay and wire. The base is made from wood and the gearing is plastic and metal. The turncrank on the side of the piece is metal.

The Moving Target

This piece makes a very moving statement! The title is”The Moving Target”. It’s about the fear of getting hurt in love. This woman on the knife thrower’s wheel has a target over her heart, which she’s trying to protect by constantly spinning. This piece does actually spin slowly with the help of a 12V motor that plugs into a regular wall outlet. There is an on/off switch in the cord. The overall size is 30″h x 40″w. The frame and backing are constructed of pine that has been polyurethaned several times before being coated with layers of acrylic paint. The knives are made of painted and aged metal. The woman is made from papier mache that is covered with old sheet music. The sheet music is from a number of different love songs. The ladies’ skirt is handprinted fabric layered over toile and tissue paper that spells out the word “hope.” The wheel she spins on is made of laminated wood.

Train of Thought

This piece is about finding your wings, even when you doubted they were there. It depicts a train of thoughts ranging from Fear and Doubt to Hope and Courage. On the first car (Fear), the words say “She couldn’t tame her thoughts”. On the second car (Doubt), it says “Sometimes she was her own worst enemy.” When she gets to the third car (Hope), the words say “And suddenly she sprouted wings.” And on the fourth car (Courage), “Then she realized they had always been there.” This piece is constructed from hand printed cloth, Italian air-hardened clay, and acrylic paint. The overall size is approx. 16″h x 42″w. This photo doesn’t do the piece justice so please email me for larger and clearer photos.

Hanging In The Balance under cloche

This is one in a series of new pieces I began in Spring 2010 of pieces under glass cloches(or belljars). This trapeze artist is balancing delicately on her swing from which she casts a longing glance up at the people outside looking in at her. She is suspended between two trees, one of which represents Fear(the dark one) and Courage(the lighter one). The trees are made of weathered wire and are covered with handprinted, coated tissue paper/fabric with the words “fear” and courage” imprinted on them. The circus flags are made from fabric and the birds that look in on the entire scene are made from Italian air-hardened clay. The base is made from painted and aged wood and surrounded with a weathered and painted metal scalloped border. The nameplate is handprinted fabric over a painted metal plate. Overall size is approx. 16″ h x 8″ w.

Suspended Animation under cloche

Balance Trapeze Artist on Hanging Plaque

The search for balance seems to be an ongoing one in most people’s lives. This trapeze artist illustrates that as she hangs from her wire swing that is suspended from twisted wire branches. She is constructed from clay and wire with a skirt of custom printed muslin, tulle and ribbon. The birds that perch on the wire branches are made from clay and the circus flag is cloth. The overall size is approx.14″ h x 9″ w x 5″ d.

Trapeze Artist 1 on Hanging Plaque

This is one of my new limited edition trapeze artist sculptures. She is constructed from clay and wire with a skirt of custom printed tissue paper, tulle and ribbon. She swings on a wire heart trapeze with a seat that is constructed from old sheet music. The birds that perch on the wire branches are made from clay and the circus flags are cloth. The sign on the lower left hand side says “Equilibrium” to signify trying to find a balance in love. The overall size is 14″ h x 9″ w x 5″ d.
